Lyric Show Live turns live speech into on-screen captions and translations. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app touches, who processes it, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers the iOS app, the Android app (from Google Play, and from the Amazon Appstore for Fire tablets), the web app at lyricshow.live, and the Lyric Show Live Discord bot.
When you press Start, Lyric Show Live listens to your microphone and converts speech to text in real time. Lyric Show Live never records your audio, never writes it to a file, and never sends it to Lyric Show Live’s own servers. The audio exists only for as long as it takes to turn it into text. (Discord live captions work differently: there, Discord voice audio passes through our caption server, in memory only, on its way to Soniox — see Discord Live Captions below.)
Where the transcription itself happens depends on the platform and the language, and in some cases that means audio is sent to Apple or Google for processing:
This is why our App Store privacy declaration lists Audio Data: the app accesses the microphone and hands that audio to the platform’s speech service for app functionality. It is not linked to your identity by us and is never used for tracking or advertising.
If you enable translation, the transcribed text — never the audio — is translated. Translation is tried on-device first: on iOS through Apple’s Translation framework, on Android and Fire tablets through Google ML Kit language packs, and on the web through your browser’s built-in translator (in Chrome) or the offline translation packs you download from lyricshow.live. When no on-device option covers the language pair, the text is sent to our server at lyricshow.live, which has it translated by Google Cloud Translation (or, when Google is unavailable, by Cloudflare’s Workers AI) and returns the result to your device. Only the phrase being translated is sent — no account identifier, and nothing that would let it be tied back to you by us. If a translation is unavailable, the app shows the original text rather than sending it anywhere else.
We do not store captions or translations on our servers, and we do not use them to build profiles or train models. On iOS, recent translations are held in memory for about ten minutes so repeated phrases render instantly; that cache is cleared when the app closes.
Speech models are downloaded from lyricshow.live; the Fire tablet app may also fetch them from the Vosk project’s own site (alphacephei.com). Offline translation packs for the web are downloaded from lyricshow.live too: they are copies of open-source models first published on the Hugging Face Hub, which we host ourselves. On Android and Fire tablets, Google ML Kit downloads its language packs from Google, and in doing so may send Google basic device and app information under Google’s ML Kit terms. On iOS, Apple downloads the language packs for its Translation framework, and in Chrome the browser downloads the models for its built-in translator from Google. A download tells the host which model file was requested, in the same way as any file download; it does not include your account details or anything you have said.
Purchases in the iOS and Android apps are made through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or — on Fire tablets — the Amazon Appstore. Purchases on lyricshow.live — including the Enterprise plan — are processed by Stripe. Payment details stay with Apple, Google, Amazon, or Stripe — Lyric Show Live never receives or stores your card number, billing address, or any other payment credential. What we do store, against your account, is the minimum needed to keep your subscription working across devices: the products you own and the resulting tier and add-ons; for app purchases, the store transaction identifier (Apple’s original transaction ID, the Google Play purchase token, or your Amazon user ID and receipt IDs) that lets us verify a purchase with the store and recognise a renewal or cancellation — Amazon subscriptions are re-checked with Amazon about once a day for this reason; and for purchases on lyricshow.live, your Stripe customer identifier, which products your web subscription includes, whether it is active, and when its current billing period ends. Refunds and cancellations of app purchases are handled by the store you purchased from, under its policies. A web subscription is managed or cancelled from your account page on lyricshow.live; for a refund on a web purchase, email support@lyricshow.live.
You can import a lyric sheet (.txt, .md, .doc, .docx, or .pdf) to guide recognition. The file is sent to our server only to have its text extracted, and it is discarded as soon as that is done — the temporary copy is deleted immediately and the file is never added to a database or shared with anyone. The extracted lyrics are returned to your device and stored there, in your song library, not on our servers. If translation is on, each line of the lyrics is also translated ahead of time, the same way as live captions, and the translations are stored on your device with the song, so they appear instantly and work offline. Delete a song in the app and it is gone, along with its translations.
If you use the Pro Broadcast overlay, your live caption text is relayed through Firebase Realtime Database to your overlay URL. That text is overwritten in real time as you speak and is not persisted.
Because an overlay URL is a paid, shareable link, we also run anti-piracy checks on it. When an overlay URL is validated we record, against your account: the IP address and browser user-agent string that loaded it, the time, and a count of validations. We use this only to detect a subscription being shared or resold — the terms allow one live session and up to three unique IP addresses per 24 hours — and to show you your own usage. The overlay text also carries an invisible watermark identifying the subscribing account, so a pirated stream can be traced back to its source. None of this is used for advertising, profiling, or location tracking, and all of it is deleted when you delete your account.
The Enterprise plan includes the Lyric Show Live Discord bot. When someone runs /lyricshow start in a Discord server linked to an Enterprise account, the bot joins their voice channel and captions it live on that account’s Lyric Show Live displays and OBS overlay. This section applies to everyone in that voice channel, whether or not they have a Lyric Show Live account.

Discord itself, including your Discord account, voice channels, and messages, is governed by Discord’s Privacy Policy. The AI Voice Adaptation feature learns your speaking patterns — word frequencies, phoneme patterns, speaking speed — entirely on your device. Speaker profiles are stored locally, never transmitted to us, and can be erased at any time from Settings.
When a captioning session ends, the app reports which language codes were used, how long the session lasted, the platform, and (in Conversation Mode) which two languages were spoken to each other. This is tied to your account identifier and helps us decide which languages and features to improve. It never includes your audio or the text of your captions. We use no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and there is no ad tracking of any kind.
If the app crashes, Apple or Google may collect a crash report — device model, OS version, and a technical stack trace — and share it with us when you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers. Crash reports never contain your audio or your captions.
If you install a pre-release build through Apple TestFlight, Apple shares limited tester data with us under its own terms: your email address or invitation code, the feedback and screenshots you choose to send, crash logs, and basic usage and device statistics. Beta builds may include extra logging to help us find problems; beta data is used only to improve the app before release and is deleted when the beta program ends.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We use these service providers to run Lyric Show Live:
These providers process data on servers that may be outside your country, including in the United States. We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Lyric Show Live or its users.

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK (GDPR): you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing, and data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time — for example by revoking microphone permission, which stops all audio processing immediately. We process your data to perform our contract with you (providing captioning and your subscription), on the basis of your consent (microphone access), and on the basis of our legitimate interests (preventing subscription piracy, keeping the service running, and understanding which languages to support). You have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
You can delete your account and its associated data at any time from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. You can also email support@lyricshow.live and we will delete it for you. Deleting your account removes your authentication record, your entitlement data, your overlay records, and any Discord server links, and it immediately cancels any subscription you bought on lyricshow.live, so you are not charged again. It does not cancel an App Store, Google Play, or Amazon Appstore subscription — manage that from your App Store, Google Play, or Amazon account. If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and the “last updated” date above. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
