Speech recognition runs on-device with sub-second latency, so words land while the line is still being sung, and the app works fully offline once language packs are downloaded. Lyric Show Live started on stage, in rooms where half the audience didn’t speak the language of the songs. The verses landed with one side of the room and passed the other by. Founder Micah Read wanted the whole room following along — not reading a printed sheet, but watching the words appear as they were sung.
The obvious approach — send audio to the cloud, get text back — fails a live performance. By the time the round-trip finishes, the line is already over. So Lyric Show Live runs speech recognition on the device itself: words land on screen while the line is still being sung, and once language packs are downloaded the whole thing works with no connection at all.
What began as a stage display grew into one system across three platforms. A single subscription covers iPhone, Android, and the web app, so a show can be set up on a phone and run from a laptop — translations for the room, captions for the stream, the same account everywhere.
